Haulotte continues its shift towards electric power with the new HA20 E. This 100% electric model succeeds the HA20 LE, the first representative of the Pulseo range, and joins the HA16 E and HA16 E PRO. It thus completes a range of electric rough terrain aerial work platforms designed to meet the ever-increasing demands of modern construction sites.
Cédric Faure, Product Manager Rough Terrain Booms, and Olivier Richard, Project Manager at Haulotte, discuss the technological choices and innovations that make the HA20 E a highly anticipated machine.

A machine at the heart of the PULSEO range
With the HA20 E, Haulotte continues to harmonize its PULSEO range, following on from the HA16 E and its removable Range Extender. « We now have a consistent range. All our PULSEO machines are now compatible with the Range Extender, » explains Cédric Faure.
Fully electric, the HA20 E stands out from its hybrid predecessor, the HA20 LE launched in 2018. « Today, the HA20 E is a 100% electric machine. The range extender is only an option, and the machine works perfectly without it, » says Olivier Richard. The result: two days of 100% electric autonomy, and up to a week* with the Range Extender.

Simplified design and commonality strategy
Developed from the structural base of the HA20 RTJ thermal, the HA20 E capitalizes on a commonality strategy. « All structural parts are identical. The electrical architecture is the same as that of the HA16 E, but with 72-volt batteries to provide the necessary power,« explains Olivier Richard.
Some components are shared with other machines, for example the 72V batteries and electric motors already integrated into the HS21 E scissor lift, which will be launched soon. « The architecture of the HA20 E is simpler than that of the HA20 LE, which reduces maintenance costs, » emphasizes Cédric Faure. The arrival of new options, including the lithium-ion battery, also represents a significant advance in the world of our rough-terrain electric aerial work platforms.
Versatility and safety on site
The HA20 E has been designed to meet the constraints of low-emission zones (LEZs) and to remain efficient on all types of terrain. « It is an all-terrain machine with performance equivalent to a thermal engine, but adapted to LEZs: no noise and no emissions, » explains Cédric Faure.

In terms of safety, the platform incorporates new driver assistance options:
- Obstacle Detection Assist (ODA) is an option designed for high-value-added environments (aeronautics, highly technical installations, very sensitive machinery, etc.) that reduces the risk of impact thanks to numerous sensors installed on the basket for sensitive environments.
- Drive Assist Solutions pack, which consists of three risk prevention options:
« These devices are designed to prevent risks (using audible and visual alerts) without hindering the machine’s everyday use, » explains Cédric Faure.
The HA20 E also incorporates all Haulotte standards, with some notable new features: « For the first time, we can accommodate three people in the basket thanks to the 350 kg Extra Reach option, » adds Olivier Richard.
Enthusiastic customer feedback
As always at Haulotte, customers were involved in the development process through prototype reviews and field tests. « The customer is always at the center of our decisions. Their feedback guides our developments, » insists Cédric Faure.
The initial tests are very promising: « We have had very positive feedback. The machine is easy to use, safe, and efficient, » confirms Cédric Faure. For Olivier Richard, one of the major lessons learned is the adoption of 100% electric mode: « During testing, the machine ran at 75% electric power, which fully validates our electrification approach. »

The HA20 E is thus establishing itself as the worthy successor to the HA20 LE, combining versatility, innovation, and sustainability.
